Price faucets, toilets, fans and punch lists from your own costs
You enter what your handyman business costs to run once. After that, every task on every visit is priced from your numbers, not from a price you made up on the spot.
- Know what an hour on a job really costs you Insurance, phone, tools, the truck, office help and your own pay become one break-even rate per billable hour.
- Price every task on the list and the visit around it Each faucet, valve, toilet or fan gets its own hours, and the store run, drive and cleanup are added once per trip.
- Quote by the job, the way customers buy The customer sees one price per task, and your hourly rate stays inside the file.
- Stop working half hours for free Supply runs, travel time and hauling the old toilet away sit on a checklist you answer before the quote is ready.
- Send a tidy quote before you leave the driveway A one-page quote with each task, the deposit and your handyman terms, ready to text as a PDF or print.
- See which visits made money The Job Log keeps every quote, won or lost, and the hours each visit really took.

How it turns tasks, parts and drive time into a handyman quote
The file has six tabs. You set up the business once, keep the parts you buy over and over up to date, and make one quote per visit.
- Start HereWhich cells to fill in first; one evening gets it ready for your next call.
- Shop SetupThe business's yearly costs, truck, tools and people (you and any office help), turned into one break-even rate, plus your minimum charge per visit.
- Price ListShutoff valves, supply lines, wax rings, toilet bolts, fan-rated boxes, anchors and caulk, each with the date you last checked the price.
- QuotePick the parts, give each task its hours, add the dump fee and answer the checklist. It prices the visit and tells you if the minimum charge is doing the pricing.
- Customer QuoteThe page your customer sees: each task, the price, the deposit and the terms.
- Job LogAfter the visit, the real hours go in, so you know if the job paid.
What is a break-even rate? It is what one billable hour has to bring in to pay you and every cost of the business, before profit. A handyman bills only part of each day, because driving, the parts counter and invoices take the rest, so the rate has to carry those hours too. The true hourly rate guide explains it.
Prefilled example built-in
The file comes filled in with a made-up handyman business and its $916.61 four-task quote, so you see a finished quote before you type in your own numbers.
The example business is one owner-handyman with part-time office help, and a break-even of $92.17 per billable hour. Its visit swaps a kitchen faucet and puts in 2 new shutoff valves, replaces a toilet, and changes a hallway light for a ceiling fan, with the customer supplying the faucet, toilet and fan.
| A | B | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Part of the price | Amount |
| 2 | Parts, task hours, truck, tools and the dump fee | $500 |
| 3 | Easy-to-miss costs | $199 |
| 4 | Markup, cushion and profit | $217 |
| 5 | Price to the customer | $916.61 |
The $217 is what the business keeps once every cost is paid, his own wage too, and his time earns about $131.65 an hour. The full visit, and how it compares with per-task prices other owners charge, is on how much to charge for handyman jobs.
$199
That is what the easy-to-miss lines alone added to this one example quote. It is about 3 times what the calculator costs. Miss them once and the file has paid for itself.

Why pricing each task for the easy version loses money
Most handyman prices get decided in the customer's kitchen, for the version where the valve shuts off and the old bolts come loose. Then one bolt is rusted solid, the disposal is in the way, and the extra hour is on you.
Take a faucet you price at $180 for one hour of work. If it takes two hours because the shutoff is dead and the nuts are seized, you have earned $90 an hour, below the sample's $92.17 break-even, before the drive or the parts run is paid.
The calculator asks about those things before the price goes out: single or double sink, a disposal to pull, valves that leak. Each gets its own hours, so the price covers the job you will really find under the sink.
Supply runs, drive time and the other visit costs it catches
The Quote tab won't mark a quote ready until each of these lines has a Yes, No or N/A:
- A paid estimate visit, when photos are not enough to price the job.
- The hardware store run for the part you only find out you need once you are there.
- Travel time both ways, counted once for the whole visit.
- Setup and cleanup, from clearing under the sink to vacuuming at the end.
- Hauling the old fixture away, with the trip and the dump fee.
- A callback reserve. Left as No in the example on purpose, so the warning stays until you set your own number.
Exactly what you get
Right after you pay, the spreadsheet downloads to your computer. Open it in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. It is a single payment, with no app, no account and nothing that renews.
- The six-tab calculator, set up for the tasks a handyman does every week.
- A sample handyman business, with a finished four-task quote to study before you enter your own.
- Handyman customer terms you can edit, covering working shutoff valves, access to the main water shutoff, and a line that turns problems behind the wall into a signed change order.
- A Job Log that shows your win rate and which visits ran long, the habit job costing explains.
How it compares
Most owners price a job one of these ways. Here is what each one gives you.

Who it's for: one-truck handymen and small repair crews
It fits owner-handymen and small handyman businesses of about 1 to 15 people doing repairs, fixture swaps and punch lists, who quote each visit as a price. Working alone out of one truck or running a few techs, doing a single leaky tap or a full move-out list, it prices the same way, because every rate, part and hour in it is your own.
It is not for larger shops already running field service software, anyone who only wants a blank form, or pure time-and-materials work where the customer never sees a quote. To check your hourly rate before buying, try the free true hourly rate calculator, or read how much a handyman charges per hour.
Stop guessing task prices in the customer's kitchen. Price each task and the trip around it from your own costs, catch the store runs and drive time, and see which visits made money.
