Getting your file
Where is my download?
Right after checkout you get a download button on the order page, and an email receipt with the same download link. If the email isn't in your inbox, check your spam or promotions folder. The receipt comes from Stripe, who handle our checkout, and the download email comes from us.
I lost the file. Can I download it again?
Yes. The download link in your order email keeps working. If you lost the email, write to us from the address you bought with and we'll send it again.
Is there a subscription or anything that renews?
No. It is one payment for one file. There is no app, no login and nothing that renews.
Opening it
How do I open it in Excel?
Save the .xlsx file to your computer and double-click it. It works in Microsoft Excel 2016 or newer, including Microsoft 365 and Excel for Mac.
How do I use it in Google Sheets?
Open Google Drive, choose New, then File upload, and pick the file. Open it, then choose File, Save as Google Sheets. Work in that copy, and it saves as you go.
Does it work on a Mac?
Yes, in Excel for Mac or in Google Sheets in any browser. Apple Numbers can open it, but it isn't what the file was built and checked in, so use Excel or Google Sheets.
Can I use it on my phone?
You can open and read it on a phone with the Excel or Google Sheets app. Setting it up and building quotes is much easier on a laptop or desktop.
Using it
Where do I start?
Open the Start Here tab. It tells you what to fill in first: Shop Setup, then the Price List, then your first quote. Plan on one evening. The getting-started guide walks through each step with pictures.
What do the colours mean?
Yellow cells are where you type. Grey cells are worked out for you. Green is the price and the profit. Red means something needs a look, like a price you haven't checked in months or a cost left out.
How do I save a new quote?
Save a copy of the whole file for each job and name it after the job, like “Q-104 Smith driveway”. In Excel use File, Save As. In Google Sheets use File, Make a copy. Your Shop Setup and prices come with it, so you only change the job details.
How do I send the customer their quote?
Save just the Customer Quote tab as a PDF and send that. In Excel, open the tab, choose File, Print, set it to Print Active Sheets and save as PDF. In Google Sheets, choose File, Download, PDF, and pick Current sheet.
Can I change the example numbers?
Yes, you should. Every number in the file belongs to a made-up example company. Replace them with your own, starting with Shop Setup.
Can I use it for more than one business?
One purchase is for one business. If you run a second business, buy a second copy for it.
